FIELD: mechanical engineering; gear drives. SUBSTANCE: gear train with variable contact zone has gear and gear wheel. Each tooth of gear wheel has similar axial displacement relative to adjacent tooth. Gear rim has angular displacement relative to axis of its rotation at a certain acute angle found from following equation: alpha = pi/2-arctg((H-B)/10) where H is total width of contact of gear wheel and gear over reference diameter, m; B is width of tooth of gear wheel, m; D is gear wheel reference diameter, m. EFFECT: reduced material usage in manufacture of gear wheel and axial dimensions of gear train. 3 dwgs
