The apparatus has a structure with two frames (8,9) which can move towards each other and between which the mattress (M) is locked. The frames (8,9) support a plurality of devices (13) for applying the quilting braces (P). Each device comprises a needle (32), to which a quilting brace (P) is coupled; the needle (32) is driven through the mattress (M). On the other side of the mattress (M) there is provided a unit (15) which applies a tuft (Z) to the quilting brace (P) guided by the needle (32). During this operation, the mattress (M) is compressed so that once it is released it expands and tensions the applied quilting braces (P). <IMAGE> |
