<p>Extensible adhesive tape comprising a base of (crepe) paper or a synthetic PVC tape capable of 10-25% longitudinal extension, reinforced by fibres or filaments attached to the surface, pref. by enclosure in a folded layer of adhesive coating one side of the base. Packaging tapes, esp. for overwrapping items in a close-fitting manner. Prior art paper based tapes had poor tensile strength, tended to fail if parcel dimensions increased (due to temperature effects) or distorted locally during handling. Fibre reinforcement provides remedy, providing the filaments accept the load before the base is extended to failure. Non linear lay-up of the reinforcing fibres allows some dimensional variation.</p> |
