<p>A spacing piece whose profile is smaller than the rails to be welded is placed between the ends, supported if necessary so that its top is level with those of the rails. The welding metal is run into the gap not occupied by the spacer and gradually drawn up over the edges of the spacer until this in turn melts and completes the weld.</p> |
