Sections of high pressure water pipe carrying a suspension of particles are joined by a bayonet coupling. The coupling has hooked projecting lugs (14) which extend radially inwards to interlock with a muff socket. The lugs (14) are further secured in the socket (1) by a supplementary locking ring (23).
