The brake pedal measuring device is used with a vehicle braking system with a foot operated braking pedal (10) to which is attached a push rod (13) to trigger a braking function dependent on the travel of the pedal (10). At least one rod shaped permanent magnet (22) is fastened to the push rod (13). The length of the magnet rod (22) is greater than the maximum movement of the push rod (13) when the brake pedal is operated. A magnetoresistive element (23) is arranged spaced a small distance from the displacement direction of the push rod (13) from the magnet rod (22). A change in the magnetic field passing through the rod (22) is detected with displacement of the magnet rod (22) and an electric analog signal is output.
