Procedure and device for activating a switch by blinking an eye, using the variation in the intensity of the light reflected on the eyelid. The procedure is implemented by means of a device that uses phototransistors for detecting the intensity of the ambient light and that reflected by the eye. There is no direct physical contact between any part of the device and the eye. The device is used so that a patient with a severe motor disability, for example one suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, can communicate with a computer. The device replaces the mechanical switches used in cases of less severe disability.
