A miniature television camera (2) for use in sterile conditions, e.g., an endoscope probe is connected to a control unit (not shown). The camera (2) and its multi-core cable (1) are surrounded by a sterile sheath in the form of a flexible tube (16) which is located at the front of a receptacle (15) in the control unit for housing the camera (2). The camera (2) can be grasped through the sterile sheath (16) and moved away from the control unit together with the cable (1), both being automatically covered by the sheath (16). A cable return device (not shown) and fibre optic system for target illumination are incorporated in the cable.
