Valve tappet for gas exchange valves in internal combustion engines

The device incorporates a coupling unit to disconnect gas exchange valve and control cam lifter curve. When the coupling unit (33-36) is disengaged, the tappet (1) is mainly outside the range of action of the control cam (3). The tappet has a locking unit (17) with at least one locking element (18), which acts with an aperture (4) in the control cam. The unit is formed so that it blocks operation of the coupling unit, when the locking element is in at least one preselected position relative to the aperture, which extends in circumferential direction on the control cam.
