A solar cell production process involves successively applying a positively (or negatively) doped ceramic layer (3), an oppositely doped ceramic layer (4), a grid-like electrical conductor (5) and an electrically insulating transparent glaze (6) onto an electrically non-conductive support plate (1), firing of the respective ceramic layers being carried out in a low oxygen content medium to remove oxygen from the layers.
