Traction and hoisting apparatus has a pair of cable clamping units 8, 9 whose jaw control members 16, 17 are pivotably connected at 24, 25 to a floating lever 22 in turn connected by a pin and slot to a reverse motion control lever 30. This arrangement prevents the floating pivot 28 of the lever 22 moving so as to simultaneously release both clamping units. In alternative embodiments the control lever is connected to the lever 22 by a universal joint, a lever and link, a parallel linkage, and a parallelogrammed-shaped plate. The floating pivot 28 can be connected by linkage to a pivot actuated by a detachable key or permanent handle to simultaneously release both clamping units. In the former case the keyhole is covered by a movable plate while the cable is in the apparatus or the apparatus is under tension, while in the latter case an abutment is provided to prevent rotation of the pivot under similar conditions by engagement with a boss on the pivot in order to prevent accidental release of both clamping units. |
