A plurality of hydrostatic weight sensors (34, 36), each incorporating a fluid and a pressure sensor (35, 37) for sensing the pressure thereof, are incorporated in a vehicle seat (3) to sense occupant weight, position, and stature. A signal processor (26) calculates the occupant weight, position, and stature from the respective pressure sensor output signals (38, 39) and controls a safety restraint system (7) responsive thereto.
