Adjustable head rest for vehicle seat

The head rest has a horizontal support frame (6) with one end mounted on a vertical support frame (3) and with the other end free. The free end has a spring loaded catch (7) which operates on a cable release (17) for a holding catch (19) which frees the head rest support for vertical adjustment. The adjustment has threaded fitting with a pitch which is sufficiently steep to prevent self locking. The locking catch comprises a plate with locking fingers which is normally secured into the end of the threaded drive. The cable release pulls back the locking catch when the user lifts both hands over his shoulder to grip the head rest and pull or push it to the required position.
