Process for obtaining p-hydroxybenzaldehyde from p-hydroxymandelic acid on an industrial scale and one of their salts by electrochemical methods, which comprises subjecting an aqueous solution of sodium p-hydroxymandelate to electro-oxidation in an electrolytic cell with or without the separation of catalyte and analyte, the said solution forming the analyte and the catalyte being configured as any basic solution, the electrodes being flat, three-dimensional, forming a compact or fluidized bed and the current density being between 10 mA/cm2 and 2 A/cm2, while the temperature lies between 0 degree C and 90 degree C, the analyte being at any pH, preferably greater than 3, the aqueous solution obtained being derived as an acidified aqueous solution and the precipitated solid having a high degree of purity.
