A ball bearing assembly interconnecting two members 200 and 201 for relative rotation consists of balls 202 and 203 rolling over parallel flat surfaces of members 200 and 201, the surfaces being at right angles to the axis of relative rotation. The balls are provided with a cage 205 made of P.T.F.E. Balls 207 and 208 situated in races 209 and 210 carry radial load between members 200 and 201. The bearings are preloaded by means a leaf spring 214 acting via the spacer 213 on the race 210. The tension in the spring may be adjusted by means of the screw threaded member 215. The bearing assembly may be used in a gimbal suspension system which supports a gyroscopical stabilized platform in an aircraft. Magnets and electrical windings may be provided to apply torques to the gimbals. |
