The device for pressing the rivets into position uses a striker hammer located in a frame of tongs formation and containing the counter holder. Apart from use in joining aluminium plates, the device can also be employed for joining plates or plastics, magnesium and steel. The device evidences an improvement over those in accordance with the state of the art where they are used in road vehicle bodywork production. The device can be used with customary industrial robots in a less restricted manner, Also and in the case of repair work, avoids use of machinery which is heavy and ungainly to handle, with high forces having to be applied at poorly accessible points.
