A description is given of an axial retainer for the differential-gear shaft of a differential. In this arrangement, an axial retention element (7) is inserted between the differential bevel gears (5, 6). This axial retention element (7) forms end portions (7a, 7b) and the central portion (7d). The axial retention element (7) is fixed on a differential-gear shaft (4) by means of the central portion (7d). The end portions (7a, 7b) limit the axial displacement of the differential bevel gears (5, 6).
