A new gaiter protects the lower leg. It covers the ankle section of the boot (17), as a long, generally tubular envelope. The fastener opens over the full length (2) and includes two interlocking strips. It is e.g a zip (RTM) sliding clasp fastener with a pull tab (6). There is a lateral connector (7) for fastening sections (2,3) and slide (5), with slide stops (8, 8'') limiting the range of engagement. A quick fastening device (12, 22, 23) also secures the closure of the gaiter, which is located at the end(s) of the zip.
