The journals of each of a pair of deforming rollers are supported by a first double acting hydraulic ram extending transverse to the billet axis and a second such ram extending in the reducing direction. Both rams are pivotally mounted on the machine frame and their cylinders are connected to pump units for each direction of moition. All pumps for the same direction are connected to a common control unit and all control units are controlled by a common supply metering device. All pump units are driven through gear trains from a common drive motor. The reduction gap is set and the rolls are retracted at the end of each pass hydraulically. The machine is partic for reducing cast strands. |
