[Also in Division G1] A torsion suspension for a gyroscopic instrument so as to allow limited rotational freedom about an axis to the gimbal 4, comprises a torsion shaft 24 rigidly fixed at one end 28 to a stationary structure and at the other end 25 to the gimbal 4, and a tubular member 31 mounted at one end only to be coaxial with the shaft and surrounding its torsionally resilient portion 30 with a clearance, e.g. of the order of a few thousandths of an inch whereby radial movements of the torsion shaft are limited. At the other end the gimbal 4 is mounted in a bearing (22) and damped by a viscous fluid damper (21<SP>1</SP>, 22<SP>1</SP>), (Fig. 1, not shown). |
