The object of the invention is a process for scraping, with the peat or similar, which is present on the field, being treated with a device which at least possesses scraping members 2 for the purpose of constituting strands. The peat is scraped in the strands when it is more moist than normal, for example at 45-55% moistness, after which the targeted moistness of the peat, for example 40%, is achieved by drying the peat, which is present in the strands, by means of spreading it out using agitating members 7.
