A negative carbon electrode for a D.C. arc lamp has a single core occupying at least oneeighth of the cross-sectional area and positioned eccentrically in the carbon body, i.e. when considered in cross-section, the centre of gravity of the core area does not coincide with that of the mantle area. The core and mantle may be of circular or non-circular, e.g. flattened, configuration. The construction is stated to eliminate instability at current loadings of 75-130 amps. at which arc contraction normally occurs.</p> |
