1,244,104. Polymerization of cyclomonoolefines. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 4 Feb., 1969 [7 March, 1968], No. 5877/69. Heading C3P. Cyclomono-olefines having 4, 5 or 7 to 12 ring carbon atoms are polymerized in the presence of a catalyst comprising (a) an organic compound of a metal of Group IV to VI of the Mendeleev Periodic System (b) a Friedel-Crafts catalyst and optionally (c) an oxygen compound. The catalyst component (a) may be an organometallic compound (containing one or more metals) or a metal organic complex. The component (b) may be a halide of an element of Groups III to VI and VIII of the Periodic System. Bicylic or polycyclic olefines, and dienes may be copolymerized with the cyclomonoolefines. In the examples, cyclo-pentene is solution polymerized in the presence of one of the following catalyst systems (a) Na 3 W- (Phenyl) 6 , SnCl and cyclopentenyl - 2 - hydroperoxide, (b) Li 3 W(Phenyl) 6 and BCl 3 , (c) Li 3 Mo(Phenyl) 6 and BF 3 , (d) Cr(C 3 H 8 ) 3 and WCl 6 , (e) Li 2 V(Phenyl) 6 and MoCl 5 , (f) W- (C 3 H 8 ) 4 and SnCl 4 , (g) (HSiOCH 3 ) 4 and WCl 6 , and (h) Ti(Phenyl) 2 and WOCl 4 . The polymers are separated and worked up by conventional means.
|
