A machine for producing cigarettes or other rod-like tobacco articles comprises a motor driven primary shaft adapted to drive those components of the machine which require to operate at a relatively high speed, and a main shaft driven from said primary shaft at a speed substantially lower than the speed of the primary shaft, the main shaft being coupled to various parts of the machine which require to be driven at relatively low speeds. A machine of this type is shown in the Figure wherein an electric driving motor 61 drives a primary shaft 68 which shaft directly drives the rotary cutter 42 printing device 7, trimming cutter 26, and accelerator wheel 46. The main machine shaft 82 is driven by the primary shaft through a reduction drive 81. This main shaft drives the other components of the machine in the tobacco distributor 1, tobacco rod-forming means 2, tobacco stream conveyor 5, cigarette rod-forming means 3 and take-off device 6. |
