摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To couple an optical element, a flat plate type optical waveguide, and an optical fiber together with high precision by a small-sized connecting component which has no excessive length by clamping a projection part of an optical waveguide chip in a groove part of a connection substrate by making good use of elastic deformation of the optical waveguide chip and connecting it to an optical waveguide core. SOLUTION: The connection substrate 3 has high-precision reference surfaces 6 and 7 and the optical waveguide chip 2 has high-precision reference surfaces 6' and 7'. The width between the reference surfaces 7' of the optical waveguide chip 2 is made a little longer than the width between the reference surfaces 7 of the connection substrate 3. Then the projection part of the optical waveguide chip 2 is clamped (elastic deformation area 9) in the groove of a lower stage of the connection substrate 3 by making good use of the elasticity of the optical waveguide chip 2 and the optical waveguide chip 2 is fitted to the connection substrate 3 with an adhesive 8 in contact with the reference surface 6 of the optical waveguide chip 2. Namely, the centers of the optical waveguide core 4 of the optical waveguide chip 2 and a pin guide hole 5 have constant position relation through the reference surfaces 6 and 6', and 7 and 7'.
