PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for modifying a cellulosic fiber by improving moisture absorbing and releasing properties thereof without impairing an original touch feeling of the cellulosic fiber and not making the fiber fragile, and to obtain the cellulosic fiber of which moisture absorbing and releasing properties are improved by the modifying method. SOLUTION: This method for modifying a cellulose fiber is top treat the cellulosic fiber with an endo-type cellulase showing >=105 cellulose bound water content changing activity value defined as in below and <=10<-2> Unit Avicelase activity/Unit of CMCase activity, for improving the moisture absorbing and releasing properties of the cellulosic fiber.
