PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently clean a recording material carrying member having a transferred toner image and to shorten the time up to the recovery of a device after is jam is processed, even if the toner image is transferred onto the recording material carrying member, because of the jam, etc., by applying a discharge bias to the recording material carrying member, at the time of cleaning it as well. SOLUTION: There is a possibility that a recording material is jammed because of failures in supplying the recording material to a transfer belt 130 and carrying the recording material, etc., to transfer the toner image onto the belt 130 not carrying the recording material. In such a case, when a recovery mode is obtained, the belt 130 is cleaned, while a separating discharge device 32 usually stopped is operated. Thus, the charge of toner electrostatically attracted onto the belt 130 is removed by the separating discharge device 32, to reduce a charge quantity and then, the toner is scraped by a fur brush 20, so that the toner can be easily removed from the surface of the belt 130. Thus, the belt 130 can be cleaned in a short time. |
