PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical fiber unit which substantially prevents the increase in the transmission loss of optical fibers by coating plural pieces the optical fibers provided with lubricant layers with an integral coating layer. SOLUTION: The optical fiber unit 1 is constituted by assembling four pieces of the optical fibers 2 which are provided with the lubricant layers 2a thereon and integrally coating these fibers with the integral coating layer 3. Each optical fiber 2 is constituted by providing the surface of a bare optical fiber consisting of quartz glass, etc., and having an outside diameter of 125μm with a first coating layer consisting of a UV curing resin having a relatively small Young's modulus and further providing the surface of this layer with a second coating layer consisting of a UV curing resin having a relatively large Young's modulus. The outside diameter of each fiber is 250μm. The lubricant layers 2a are formed by uniformly applying lubricants on the surface of the optical fibers 2 so as to attain a thickness of about 1 to 10μm. The integral coating layer 3 comprises a foamed synthetic resin, such as foamed polyethylene and the thickness thereof is 0.2mm. |
