<p>Prepn. of solid quaternary ammonium salts of amines and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid is effected by dissolving the acid in a solvent substantially immiscible with water but miscible with the amine, which does not react with the amine or the acid and in which the quaternary salt is insoluble and reacting the solution with the amine and collecting the quaternary salt by filtration. The quaternary salts are water-soluble, non-corrosive herbicides which are stored and transported more economically than the usual aqs. solutions. The process is suitable for batch or continuous operation.</p> |
