PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the response speed of a light deflector by allowing first and second electrodes to have shapes having oblique sides inclined to reverse sides with respect to the optical axis on the light-emitting sides of a light beams to reduce the driving voltage without incurring the increasing of capacitances. SOLUTION: A thin film optical waveguide 6 made of PLZT having a Kerr effect is formed on the surface of a conductive single crystal substrate 5. Triangle shaped prism electrodes 7A, 7B which are consisting of ITO and which have vertical sides whose lengths are L1 and which orthogonally cross optical axis of a light beam, bases whose length are L2 and which are parallel with the optical axis and oblique sides which form a right angleαwith respect to the vertical sides are formed on the thin film optical waveguide 6. The prism electrodes 7A, 7B are made to be turned over shapes. When a prescribed driving voltage Va is applied in between the prism 7A and the substrate 5, the incident light beam from a grating 9 is refracted to the direction of the base of the prism electrode 7A by a prescribed deflection angleθD at the light-emitting surface of a light deflection area 6A.
