PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an erroneous image display in a projection display device. SOLUTION: A λ/4 phase difference plate 821 is arranged on an optical path of blue color light between a liquid crystal light valve 811 for blue light and a cross dichroic prism 813. The blue color light of s-polarized light made incident on the liquid crystal light valve 811 for blue light transmits through an s-polarized light transmitting polarizing plate 811a, and is modulated by a liquid crystal panel 811b, and is converted to p-polarized light, and further, transmits through a p-polarized light transmitting polarizing plate 811c to be emitted. The emitted p-polarized light is made incident on the λ/4 phase difference plate 821, and is converted to circularly polarized light to be emitted, and to be made incident on the cross dichroic prism 813. Tough the circularly polarized light reflected by a red color reflection film 831 and a blue color reflection film 833, and made incident again on the λ/4 phase difference plate 821 is converted to the s-polarized light to be emitted on the liquid crystal light valve 811 for blue light, is interrupted by the p-polarized light transmitting polarizing plate 811c, and an effect to the liquid crystal panel 811b is prevented. |
