PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize the lateral dimensions of an outboard motor by arranging a generator so far arranged on another shaft other than the crankshaft of an engine between the front or rear surface of an engine block and the inner surface of the engine cover, so that the increase of the lateral dimensions of the outboard motor due to the generator can be restrained. SOLUTION: A generator 62 of an outboard motor is arranged in the front upper part of a crankcase 7 that is positioned in the front part of the engine room 36. In other words, the generator 62 is arranged in the flow passage of air that flows forward along the upper wall of an engine cover 4 and also that flows downward along the front wall of the engine cover 4, so that the generator 62 and the surroundings thereof can be effectively cooled. By arranging the generator 62 to the space between the front surface of an engine E and the engine cover 4, the lateral dimensions or lateral width of the outboard motor can be restrained to a minimum. Further, an intake manifold 85 is arranged in the space between the right side surface of the engine E and the engine cover 4, so that the right and left spaces of the engine E can be utilized in a wall-balanced state. |
