The elevator has a base (1) and a telescopic mast (M) consisting of several sections (2, 3, 4) which is moved using a series of cables and pulleys which form a lifting block which is activated by a winch (6). The safety mechanism consists of a double lifting block on the fixed section (2) and the mobile sections of the mast. The winch is designed to roll and unroll two separate cables (7, 8) and has separate return mechanism (E1, E2, E3) for the two cables. The cables are anchored by separate anchor points (13, 15) so that the tension cable (7) supports the load while the safety cable (8) does not support the load under normal circumstances. The return mechanisms comprise two co-axial, independent pulleys mounted side by side, which rotate freely around a single axis (10 between the supports (11) attached to the sections of the mast.
