The invention relates to a stamp (1) comprising a support member (2) for being placed on a stamp surface. A plate (11) carrying a pre-inked stamp element (15) is movably mounted in the support member. The pre-inked stamp element comprises a porous containment structure having a substantially ink impermeable surface comprising a pattern of apertures. The resilient member (9) is formed of an elastomeric or a resilient synthetic material. The distance between the stamp surface and the ink impermeable surface of the containment structure is not more than 0,5 cm preferably not more than 3 mm. The combined structure can after stamping be retracted from the ink surface over only a small distance without smearing or staining. Therefore a resilient synthetic material or an elastomeric material can be applied to withdraw the plate from the stamping surface in an efficient and cheap manner.
