This monitoring and assistance system for isolated persons comprises: a unit (15) delocalized to the desired place for monitoring and assisting said persons, provided with a receiver and for transferring an emergency signal, in particular by means of a telephone network (16), switched on to one or several predetermined places (17), particularly monitoring centre, first-aid centre, relatives, parents; and a portable unit (1) to be carried by said persons for sending one or several signals to the delocalized unit (15), said signals being designed to induce the transfer of the emergency signal by the unit to said predetermined places, and further including means for sensing (2, 3, 4) the fall of the person carrying it, capable of inducing the transmission by the transmitter which it comprises of said signals designed in turn for inducing the transfer of the alarm by the delocalized unit (15),said sensing means being based on gravimetry or the use of accelerometers.
