A process for producing alkenyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbons which comprises alkenylating an alkyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon having a hydrogen atom at the α-position of the side chain with a conjugated diene, wherein use is made of a catalyst obtained by the action of an alkali metal compound and either an alkali metal or an alkali metal hybride on a metal oxide selected between alumina and hydrotalcite by heating in a specific temperature range; and another process for producing an alkenyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon, characterized by conducting the reaction in the presence of an alkylaminopyridine represented by formula (1) (wherein R1 represents hydrogen or C1-6 alkyl and R2 represents C1-6 alkyl) using a catalyst comprising sodium metal, potassium metal, or an alloy thereof, a catalyst having any of these supported on a support of an inorganic compound, or a catalyst obtained by the action of an alkali metal compound and either an alkali metal or an alkali metal hybride on a metal oxide selected among alumina, alkaline earth oxides, hydrotalcite, silica-alumina, and zeolite by heating in a temperature range of 70 to 700 °C.
|
