The method involves determining the load components of the converters (1,2,3) which are connected in parallel, by a controller (8). The predefined total current requirement of the load is distributed between the converters supplying the load by a balancing controller (65,75), whereby the current component for a supplying converter is limited by its maximum current level. When a converter is switched away from the load, the desired current value for the total current regulator is limited to maximum current for the remaining supplying converters.
