Coating cpds by reacting homo-or copoly- - mers of vinylthioglycols with organic poly-hydroxyl cpds

Coatings or vanishes for iron, aluminium(alloys) glass etc. are prepd by reading in the presence of acids, (a) a homo- or copolymer of a vinylthioglycol of formula:- (where R = H, alkyl of 1-4 C's or aryl) with (b) 0.1-60 wt. % (based on (a)) of organic polyhydroxylated cpds. The copolymer may comprise 5-20 wt.% of vinylthioglyol and 95-80% by wt. ethylenically unsat. monomers.
