摘要 1,196,875. Polishing. SPEEDFAM CORP. 25 July, 1968 [10 Aug., 1967], No. 35587/68. Heading B3D. A polishing machine comprises a polishing wheel assembly 44 mounted on a vertical axis on a frame work 12, at least one vertically movable spindle 60 supported above the assembly 44, a generally horizontal pressure disc 64 connected to the spindle and having engagement means 66 on its lower surface, and a generally horizontal load plate 82 having workpieces 84 affected to its lower surface for engaging the wheel assembly 44 and means 86 on its upper surface intermediate its centre and outer periphery engaging the means 66, the pressure disc being vertically movable with the spindle is that the means 66, 86 may be selectively engaged. The polishing wheel assembly 44 consists of a cloth or felt-layer 46 retained by a ring 52 or glue on an annular backing wheel 46 driven through a speed reducer 34 from a motor 32 mounted in the framework 12. Posts 16 are upstanding from the framework and support a bridge 18 formed with arms 20 carrying pneumatic piston-and-cylinder devices 22. Each device has a rod 26 secured to a spindle 60 formed with a collar 62. The lower end of each spindle has a universal joint connection 72 to a pressure plate 64. A depressing ridge 66 on the pressure plate is received within an annular groove 86 in hood plate 82, the lower surface of which has the workpieces 84 secured thereto. The groove 86 is formed at a radius equal to one-half of the radius of the hood plate. When the spindles 60 and wood plates are raised by the devices 22 to positions determined by the collars 62, the ridges disengages the grooves to permit removal of the load plates a polishing mixture, such as iron oxide, ceraium oxide or zirconium oxide susa pump 58 to a spout 54 and returned by way of a drip pan 30. A shroud 88 surrounds the polishing wheel assembly and is located by three posts 92 each of which engages a cut out 94 formed with two flats 100, 102 connected by a ramp 106 whereby, upon rotations of the shroud by handles 108, the height of the shroud can be adjusted from a lower position during fitting and removal of the load plates to an upper positiion during the polishing operation. The plane of the shroud may be adjusted relative to the polishing wheel by means of cams 98 on the posts 92.
