A grease comprises a major amount of a synthetic lubricating oil of which at least 30 wt. per cent is at least one diester of sebacic or azelaic acid and a C 5 -C 8 monoalkyl substituted primary alcohol; a gelling amount of a colloidally dispersed clay that has been treated with mineral acid and coated with 45-70% by weight of clay of both aminoamides formed between coconut oil fatty acids and polyethylene polyamines and aminoamides formed between tall oil fatty acids and polyethylene polyamines; 0À5-1À25 wt. per cent of sodium sebacate and 0À5-1À25 wt. per cent of a phenylnaphthylamine. The diesters specified are those formed from 2-ethyl hexanol and C 1 -C 4 alkyl butanols. The additional lubricating oil may be a fatty acid/pentaerythritol ester or a silicone oil (examples given). The grease may also contain diphenylamine, phenothiazine and molybdenum disulphide. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 850,913 and 906,228. |
