A strainer for pulp suspensions comprises a vertical, cylindrical screen 30 and rotary cleaning blades 43, and is demountable so that blades 43 may be located outside or inside the screen as required for different types of pulp, either by moving or changing the bades or by replacing the screen. In Fig. 6, blades 43 are screwed to disc 342 at either of two alternative diameters, their lower ends being joined by alternative rings 44, 144. Screen 30 remains fixed to the casing by flange 31, and disc 342 forms a sliding seal, with a small gap, with the top edge of the screen, separating accepts space 19i from inlet space and deaeration space 19a and 18. Figs. 4, 5 (not shown) illustrate a screen 30 which is closed at the top by alternative outer and inner, annular covers (30a, 30i), depending on whether blades 43 are secured to their mounting ring 242a at the inner or outer diameter. Figs. 1, 2 (not shown) illustrate replacement of a wide diameter screen by a narrower one, retaining the same cleaning blades and their supporting spider. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates replacement of the supporting spider of Fig. 1 by one of larger diameter, while retaining the original screen. All the embodiments illustrated are designed for inward flow, with blades 43 inclined to generate reverse flow pulses as they sweep across the screen. However, a similar construction could be adapted to outward flow screening. |
