A lock having a robust first lock mechanism and a complex second lock mechanism 22 which comprises a larger number of key differs than the first lock mechanism. The first lock mechanism is operated by a first key to move a catch member 12. The second lock mechanism 22 is operated by a second key to move a jamming member 24 that serves to deadlock the first lock mechanism. The bolt 12 which, when the second lock mechanism 22 is in its locked position, is prevented from moving away from escutcheon 2 by the jamming member 24 which enters the wedged-shaped gap 16 between the bolt 12 and back plate 14. In another embodiment the first lock mechanism (42, fig 5) may have a cam (44, fig 5) which is blocked by a jamming member (50, fig 5). The two lock mechanisms share a common lock housing, eg of stainless steel, and the lock may be used in electrical apparatus enclosures. |
