摘要 1279256 Riveting; making blind rivets; angular bending GEORGE TUCKER EYELET CO Ltd 19 Nov 1969 [20 Nov 1968] 54971/68 Headings B3A B3E and B3U In a blind riveting method, the mandrel stem S is pulled axially in a direction inclined at 15- 25 degrees to the rivet axis so that after setting of the rivet the mandrel breaks at a position where it emerges from the rivet head. In operation, the mandrel is inserted through a hole 40 of an abutment 36 and between jaws 30 and the rivet head is seated against a frustoconical face 38 of the abutment 36 having an axis of revolution inclined at 20 degrees to the hole 40. The rivet is frictionally held by a spring steel retainer 46. On retracting the mandrel gripping jaws 30 by an hydraulically operated piston-rod 12, the mandrel is pulled over a radiused edge bounding the hole 40 and eventually breaks at a position substantially flush with the rivet head. The nosepiece 16 to which the abutment 36 is secured, is adjustable about its axis. The disposition of the nosepiece 16 allows access of the tool to restricted spaces (Fig. 5, not shown). The rivet may be open or closed ended. The mandrel stems S are bent by feeding blind riveting assemblies down an inclined raceway comprising spaced bars 52, 54. The lowermost rivet assembly is arrested by a block 72 and the tubular portions of four assemblies are pushed over by a pneumatic piston and cylinder operated pusher 74 so that the mandrel stems are bent to an angle of 20 degrees with the rivet axes. The bent assemblies are then able to pass the block 72 to allow the next four assemblies to arrive at the bending station.
