[Also in Division C3] Substrates e.g. glass plates and wood are coated with a composition comprising an unsaturated polyester, a copolymerisable monomeric compound and as a photosensitizer, a benzoin aryl ether of the formula: in which Ar denotes an aromatic radical and R 1 and R 2 , which may be identical or different, each denote a hydrogen atom. a chlorine atom or a methyl group and the coating is hardened by ultra-violet irradiation. The composition may contain synthetic or glass fibres, silicic acid or talc. A wood substrate may first be coated with a nitrocellulose primer. In Example 4, trimethylolpropanediallyl ether is used in the preparation of the polyester.</p> |
