The base material consists of a base steel that has a base carbon content of less than 0.3 wt. % and that is carbon-enriched through its surface (2, 3, 4) of two cover faces (2), two leading edge faces (3) and two longitudinal edge faces (4). As a result of a thermochemical treatment of at least one cover face (2), the base steel has edge regions (5) enriched with 0.5 to 1.1 wt. % carbon; with diminishing carbon content the edge regions (5) merge into a region (6) of little or no carbon enrichment. On its edge faces (3, 4) the base material has a sandwich structure created by the carbon-enriched edge region (5) and the non-carbon-enriched region (6).
