Glycol diesters prodn - from pref conjugated dienes and carboxylic acids in presence of gamma-radiation

Diesters of >=4 C unsatd. glycols are prepd. by reacting dienes having a C-structure corresponding to that of the glycols, pref. conjugated dienes having general formula R1R2C=CR3-CR4=CR5R6 (I) (where R1 to R6 are H or 1-6C alkyl) with an esp. 1-20C aliphatic, aromatic or alicyclic carboxylic acid, (II), and supplying the energy required for reaction by treatment with gamma-radiation, pref. from a 60Co-source, opt. in presence of a catalyst. By carrying out reaction in absence of O2, unreacted diene need not be separated from unreacted O2.
