摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject catalyst useful for producing a polyether by subjecting a carbonyl group-containing monomer such as anα-keto acid or anα-aldehydic acid to anionic polymerization in water, by reacting a specific monocarboxylic acid and dicarboxylic acid with an alkali metal hydroxide in water and dehydrating. SOLUTION: (A) At least one of a monocarboxylic acid of formula I (R<1> is H, etc.) (glyceric acid, etc.) and a dicarboxylic acid of formula II (R<2> is H, etc.) (malonic acid) is reacted with (B) an alkali metal hydroxide(lithium hydroxide) in water and dehydrated to give the objective catalyst comprising at least one selected from a monocarboxylate of formula III (M is an alkali metal) and a dicarboxylate of formula V. The amount of the alkali metal hydroxide is 1-3mol based on 1mol of the monocarboxylate and 2-4mol based on 1mol of the dicarboxylate. The component A and the component B are dissolved in water so as to give 1-60wt.% of the component A concentration, the reaction is carried out at >=10 deg.C and the reaction solution is dehydrated by drying under reduced pressure.
