PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition containing fine particles of a noble metal or a base metal supported on a solid carrier in a highly dispersed colloidal state in high uniformity, its use and its simple production process. SOLUTION: This metallic fine particle/solid carrier composition contains a noble metal such as gold, silver or a platinum-group element or a base metal such as nickel, cobalt or copper supported on a carrier composed of a swelling laminar silicate such as smectite clay or swelling mica. The composition can be produced by dissolving a metal compound in a solvent and reducing the metal compound with a reducing agent in the solvent containing a swelling laminar silicate in dispersed state, thereby depositing the metal in the form of fine particles supported on the carrier. |
