PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lipid metabolism improver having activities for improving lipid metabolism, useful for prevention and treatment of hyperlipemia and having reduced side effect such as tachycardia, etc., by including aβ-oxo-β- benzenepropanethioamide derivative of preventive and treating agent of renal disease and cardiac disease. SOLUTION: This lipid metabolism improver includes aβ-oxo-β- benzenepropanethioamide derivative of the formula (R<1> and R<2> are each a 1-6C alkyl or form a 2-5C alkylene by bonding each other; R<3> and R<4> are each H, a halogen, a 1-6C alkyl, etc.), e.g. 4-(1-imidazolyl)-N-methyl-β-oxo-α,α- trimethylenebenzenepropanethioamide, has activities improving lipid metabolism, mainly capable of improving abnormally increased state of serum lipid comprising a cholesterol, a triglyceride, a phospholipid and a free fatty acid, and is useful as the lipid metabolism improver for treating and preventing hyperlipemia, etc. A pharmaceutically acceptable salt, hydrate or solvated material thereof is also used in the same way.
