PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject new compound having excellent insecticidal activity. SOLUTION: This compound is expressed by the formula I [R<1> is a halogen; R<2> is a 1-4C alkyl or a 1-4C haloalkyl; R<3> is H, a (substituted) 1-4C alkyl or a (3-8C cycloalkyl-substiteuted) 1-4C alkoxycarbonyl; R<4> is furyl, thienyl, pyrrole, pyrazolyl, etc.; (n) is 0-2]. The compound can be produced by the dehydration reaction of a compound of the formula II such as 4-chloro-4'- methylmercaptomethylbenzophenone with a compound of the formula III (R<5> is H or a 1-4C alkyl) such as nicotinyl hydrazide in a diluent such as ethanol in the presence of an acid catalyst. The compound exhibits sure controlling effect on noxious insects without causing phytotoxicity to the cultured plant. The insecticidal effect is especially excellent against lepidopterous vermin, coleopterous vermin and soil vermin. |
